I Love my iPhone but as we all know there are numerous things that annoy every iphone user about their new iPhone. Some of these items should have been fixed a while back even on the first generation iPhone.

I love my iPhone, but it does lack some important features and functionality. That’s why I’ve put together this list of 25 fixes Apple should make to the iPhone.

Apple, if you read this, please consider these suggestions the next time you issue an iPhone update.25 things wrong with the iPhone:

1. Can’t copy & paste text.

2. Except for the first and last SMS messages in a session, iPhone text messages lack timestamps.

3. iPhone’s Safari browser does not support Java or Flash, so you can’t watch videos (except for YouTube ones) or see parts of certain websites.

4. The on-screen keyboard can’t be used in landscape mode in applications other than Safari.

5. Vibrate mode for incoming text messages is weak.

6. Incoming text messages appear word-for-word on the screen upon receiving them, which may be a privacy issue for some.

7. No Undo function for when you’ve accidentally erased or mistyped text.

8. Scroll bars don’t appear in some text fields in the browser, and there are no arrow keys to maneuver through text.

9. Can’t save usernames and passwords in Safari.

10. The YouTube app does not allow you to view or post comments on videos.

11. Can’t download or save Word documents, PDF files, or any other file for that matter. Why not add a My Documents folder?

12. No spell check feature for web forms.

13. Can’t send more than one image in an email.

14. Except for in the Camera Roll, photos can’t be edited or removed directly from the iPhone. You have to edit them on your computer and then re-sync them.

15. The iPhone lacks a Find function for sorting through contacts, e-mails, calendar appointments, notes, etc.

16. Can’t update your Facebook status via iPhone’s Safari browser. Facebook is a fast-growing social network, so iPhone should support it. (Update: Facebook now has an iPhone version of the site, located at iphone.facebook.com)

17. No mass edit feature for handling calendar items, notes and e-mails.

18. Can’t search within web pages in the browser.

19. Its 3-day, expensive battery replacement plans.

20. Can’t highlight text.

21. Limited ringtones. Can’t set songs as ringtones. (Update: Apple now lets you convert some songs into ringtones via iTunes for $0.99 each.)

22. Difficult to rewind and fast-forward through long audio and video files (like audiobooks and TV shows or movies).

23. No AIM or iChat application.

24. One too many steps to dial a contact. (Update: In a software update, Apple added a feature that lets you double tap the home button to access your Favorites list of contacts.)

25. Because it is recessed, the headphone jack is incompatible with non-Apple headphones. Griffin’s headphone adapter can solve this problem.

*Bonus* - MORE things wrong with the iPhone

Here are a few more things wrong with the iPhone, as readers have pointed out in the comments below.

26. iPhone’s camera is archaic (no zoom, poor image stabilization, poor quality in low-lit areas).

27. No speed dial or voice dial functionality.

28. Cannot add attachments to emails.

29. Can’t use iPhone as a hard drive storage device, unlike the iPod.

30. Can’t change the sound notifications for email, voicemail, etc.

31. Can’t delete individual entries from the recent calls list without deleting them all, a potential privacy issue.

32. No 3G data speeds. EDGE is slow at times.

33. Cannot send photos via text messages.

34. Cannot send mass text messages. (Update: Apple added mass text messaging to the iPhone via firmware update 1.1.3)

35. iPhone lacks a video camera.

36. No tasks or To-Do widgets.

37. No support for games.

38. Can’t disable auto-correct on the keyboard. Every time it makes a suggestion you don’t want, you have to tap X to cancel it, which can slow down typing a lot.

39. iPhone’s calculator lacks a backspace, so you have to clear the entire process if you accidentally touch an unintended digit.

After all the rumors and speculations, its finally official, Apple has announced a 16GB iPhone thus doubling the storage capacity. Along with the 16GB iPhone, Apple has also announced a 32GB iPod Touch.

Lets face when Apple launched the 16 GB iPod Touch it was quite imminent that we would soon have a 16 GB iPhone. The 16GB iPhone is priced at $499, in addition to the 8GB iPhone for $399. The 32GB iPod Touch is priced at $499, in addition to the 16GB iPod Touch for $399 and the 8GB iPod Touch for $299.

Though there are no additional features in these models, I hear they will come pre-loaded with firmware v1.1.3, and the good news is that the 32GB iPod Touch will include the $20 software upgrade which adds Mail, Maps, Stocks, Weather and Notes which was announced in Steve Jobs Keynote Address.

Here are some more details which you might find useful in case you want to upgrade to the 16GB iPhone:

* If you have recently bought an iPhone (14 or fewer days ago) then you can return it in exchange for a 16GB model for $100 more.

* In case you have opened the iPhone, then you will be charged an additional 10 percent as restocking fee (common practice followed by Apple).

* You do not need to sign a new contract, apparently all you need to do is use the SIM card with the current contract from your previous iPhone and activate it for free from iTunes.

I think that Apple will obviously be releasing a 32GB version of the iphone very soon since they just made a 32GB ipod touch. Apple wants everyone to buy these handsets first before they make the higher capacity ones with the 3G chip. I myself would like a 32GB iPhone. I have two 30 GB ipods and i could put almost all my music on the phone and take it with me. By that time they will release the iPhone 2 totally redesigned phone with al the missing features I’m sure.

Supposedly i heard that these new iPhones come with different hardware that is much harder to jailbreak so before buying one make sure you can use it with your SIM card of course.

I think Apple is pissed at all the hacking that is going on on there equipment. The main reason they want full control is because if a user buys and activated through itunes on an iPhone AT&T plan then Apple recievs about 20% of the bill each month as reiduals. This is a huge loss for Apple if they can’t get their money. So what i think Apple will do is slowley release better features with more updates untill the hacking community cann’t break the code and jailbreak the phones any longer.

In 5 days we will see the next version of the iphone firmware with many new features. Ver 1.1.3 has been leaked but will hackers be able to break the code? So far no one can. I’m sure Apple has done lots of studying on how to release a version that wont be able to be hacked. I sure hope that one day someone can jailbreak this new version but it doesn’t look like it. I myself have a jailbroken iPhone and would really benefit especially from the native SMS mult-recipient message feature.

Steve Jobs is a very smart and somewhat arrogant man. He knows he has a great product that everyone on every network wants. He knows that people will try to jailbreak phones and he is prepared. I’m sure Steve and the iPhone team have prepared for these situations and will be ready on macworld 2008 for these releases and the hacking community which has made great headway last year. Beside an updated iphone firmware what else can we only guess or hope to see at macworld 2008?

Well many people specualte a new hardware version of teh iphone called iphone 2.0 . I myself do not think enough time has gone by for apple to be releasing the next version when they don’t even have the first version complete. The first iphone that you and i own is still missing many features many other phones have as a default. Where is the video recorder? MMS & mult contact SMS text messaging which would only make apple & AT&T more money since we will have to pay for sending and receiving these messages. Where is the bluetooth address book syncing?

“The iPhone Book (Scott Kelby, Terry White) This is a great book for learning how to do something with your iPhone. Every page is a self-contained “how to” for a different subject - and no function of the iPhone goes undescribed, with screen shots and exact directions. Some pages also have extra tips or work-arounds for things, like making a slide show with music, that you’d think were already built-in functions. Where there are difference when interacting with a Mac or a PC, these are pointed out too.

The book is divided into chapters for each of the different major functions of the iPhone - web surfing, photos, iPod features, etc. - and oh yeah, I think you can make and receive phone calls on it, too. The organization and complete Table of Contents make it very easy to find exactly the help you’re looking for.

The writing is in a very light and conversational style - each chapter begins with a humorous intro, and then dives right into the how tos. You can either read through this cover to cover or use it as a reference manual.

I personally find the iPhone to be the easiest cell phone I have ever used. But even so, I picked up several good tips and tricks from this book, and recommend it to all iPhone owners who want to get the most out of their new toy.

Finally the Firmware update we’ve all been waiting for folks. This latest leaked update ver. 1.1.3 will include many fixes and cool updates that we all wished for. I’m mostly excited about the multiple SMS texting feature. I’ve tried numerous hacked programs and they jsut don’t seem to compare to apples default program built into the phone.

Still no Picture SMS support!!! (Hopefully very soon)

Well the Apple iphone features that are included in this update are very cool and this is considered a major update.
The edit Home screen icon feature is top-notch (picture shown below)

Although this update is leaked and will probably be released during Macworld in 2 weeks from now, there is currently no way to hack or jailbreak this release. The only way to update is through itunes and Apple will make you use the default AT&T plan and apple default iphone features from the box.

I’m sure once it goes public the hackers will start working on a way to jailbreak this firmware update since it has so many coveted features in the apple iphone hacking community.  So if you can’t live without your iphone applications and added on programs and features, or if you have an unlocked SIM, then you will have to wait for a jailbreak solution to arise before installing this awesome apple iphone firmware update 1.1.4.

Folks at Gear Live with help from Natetrue, first published convincing screenshots of the new iPhone firmware v1.1.3. The features that one could expect from iPhone firmware v1.1.3 are as mentioned below:

* The ability to send an SMS message to multiple people
* Google Maps application can now pinpoint your location using cell tower triangulation
* Google Maps can now display the Hybrid map view
* You can now drag and drop application icons on your home screen
* The home screen supports pagination
* You can now add web bookmarks to your home screen

An awesome Application for Text Messaging and SMS has been recently updated and works great. When the iPhone was released i was very sad to find out that i could not send SMS to multiple contacts, forward or delete just that one text message… Good News!

Now the Apple iphone program SMSD will allow you to manage and forward certain messages as well as delete incoming or sent messages.. You can forward messages and send an SMS to a group list now. Finally someone else feels my frustration with apple for the need for this simple SMS application.. I don’t understand why Apple would not include this in the first place. My only guess was that they had trouble figuring out how the ichat style texting would work with multiple recipients.

I love this new program, you can get it from your Installer App on the iphone once it’s been jail-broken or from google code here SMSD.

My only complaint about this nifty little application is that you must have a leading 1 before your numbers in the US. So contacts phone numbers in your address book will need to look like this: 1(555)123-4567, otherwise it will not show the name of the contact. If anyone out there knows of a script to add this 1 to my address book on my mac please email or leave a comment to this post as to where i can find this script or app. Thanks
Next we have a brand new MMS application which i have not got to work yet, only because i need to find my proxy settings for delivery of MMS messages. I guess they work differently then the traditional SMS style messages.

With this program this should let you send any photo you took with your iphone to anyone else who has an MMS enabled phone and account.. Now while you can send MMS messages which are picture text messages, you still can’t receive them on your iphone. I’m sure this developer is working on this part while i write this and Apple should have this all working by next year (fingers crossed)

Apparently Apple released this feature on the iphone before it was truly ready. Apple iPhone Visual Voicemail is an awesome feature that only AT&T offers right now. Soon i think all cell phone makers & carriers will be using enhanced voicemail features such as apples.

All iPhone plans include Visual Voicemail, an industry first, which allows consumers to see a listing of their voicemails, decide which messages to listen to, then go directly to those messages without listening to previous messages. Just like email, Visual Voicemail on iPhone enables users to immediately and randomly access the messages that interest them most. Unlike most wireless plans that charge additional fees for new features, there are no additional fees for Visual Voicemail.

Apple’s already drawn a bit of unintended attention for the iPhone’s Visual Voicemail feature, and it now looks like its facing a bit more heat on the matter, with Klausner Technologies now suing both it and AT&T for alleged patent infringement. Specifically, Klasuner is claiming that the Apple and AT&T violated two of its patents by “allowing users to selectively retrieve voice messages via the iPhone’s inbox display” and, according to Apple Insider, its seeking damages and future royalties estimated at some $360 million.

I just upgraded to the latest iTuens 7.5.. My iphone is still operational. So the new update is declared safe for the iPhone developer community. No problems with hacks & jailbreaks.

he new update includes the following enhancements as per the release notes:

•     Support for Phase, a new interactive music game designed exclusively for iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod (fifth generation).
•     Includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance.

I knew that Apple would win numerous awards for this beautiful phone. Look at it and try to compare it with another cell phone that has the same kind of technology. It doesn’t exist. Apple’s iphone will change the cellular phone industry forever as many other companies are trying to make touch screen phones that are similar to iphone. Can they beat Apples gem? We can only wait and see what happens next.

1. The iPhone is pretty
Most high-tech companies don’t take design seriously. They treat it as an afterthought. Window-dressing. But one of Jobs’ basic insights about technology is that good design is actually as important as good technology. All the cool features in the world won’t do you any good unless you can figure out how to use said features, and feel smart and attractive while doing it.

An example: look at what happens when you put the iPhone into “airplane” mode (i.e., no cell service, WiFi, etc.). A tiny little orange airplane zooms into the menu bar! Cute, you might say. But cute little touches like that are part of what makes the iPhone usable in a world of useless gadgets. It speaks your language. In the world of technology, surface really is depth.
